Welcome to Nordic Seattle
The Nordic Council of Greater Seattle was established in 2017 through an initiative of a core group of Nordic community leaders from the Seattle area. The group’s mission is to facilitate communication and cooperation between Nordic organizations in the Puget Sound region.
Since early days, the Nordic presence in the Seattle area has been strong, with a history of immigration from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Iceland. Hundreds of ethnic organizations and clubs have supported the extended community, with many of them still in existence today.
In view of the Northwest’s uniquely rich Nordic culture and with the goal for preserving and nurturing our heritage into the future, the Nordic Council of Greater Seattle seeks to:
- support and grow local Nordic organizations and resources
- develop collaboration among organizations
- make Nordic culture and resources available and accessible for all generations
- promote the entire Nordic-American community
With a society that is moving very quickly and modern communications, sharing information has become easier, but we also confront challenges: information overland, multiple channels, and complex schedule management.
The founders of the Nordic Council of Greater Seattle recognized a need to create a collaborative website where all organizations could schedule and advertise their events to avoid calendar conflicts, share out information to a broader audience, increase participation in events, and ensure the sustained success of our Nordic community.
The result of our initiative is www.nordicseattle.com, designed to meet the specific needs of our community. It is our goal to support all those who participate in the events of the community and welcome all newcomers who share our values and mission.
