Is “hygge” Denmark’s secret to happiness? “Hygge” can be described as a feeling of connection to others or to the present moment in a cozy or comforting atmosphere. However, there is no direct translation.

It is a concept at the heart of Denmark’s collective conscience that has taken the world by storm in recent years. The term has taken such traction on the global stage that it has been incorporated into the Oxford English Dictionary. The international public eye has already been fixed on Denmark for its consistent high scores on the UN World Happiness Report year after year. Could “hygge” be a reason why?
