Join us for a Nordic film series exploring the dreams, challenges, and struggles of immigrants both then and now, from the time of the Great Migration to contemporary Scandinavia.

Underdog (Svenskjävel, 2014) is the story of 23-year-old “Dino,” a young Swedish woman who dreams of a different life and heads to find work among Norway’s nouveau-riche. In Oslo, she finds herself stuck in a destructive loop of temporary jobs, financial trouble, and hard partying. During a few sultry summer weeks, she ends up in the center of an odd love triangle, in an unpredictable struggle for affection as well as dominance.

In Norwegian and Swedish with English subtitles. There will be an introduction prior to the film and a discussion following.

This is a free event, with a suggested $5 donation to the Swedish Club. Free parking.

Following the film, enjoy the hospitality of the Swedish Club as our guests, with dinner and drinks available for purchase and the best view in Seattle.

This film series is sponsored by the Seattle-Bergen Sister City Association, the Swedish Club, and the University of Washington Jackson School Center for West European Studies.
